Film-making by Film-Makers Workshops

Covering vital areas of the film-making process, our film-making workshops will once again be hosted by masters of their field. Bringing with them over 75 years worth of combined experience, our proven, professional and award winning workshop leaders have graciously offered their hard earned knowledge and wisdom to any who want to hear it and learn from them and their mistakes, (so you don't have to make your own).

Monday August 6th

Producing: Douglas Dougan
We are pleased to have with us this year Douglas Dougan, a local film-maker who is not only skilled in screen-writing but has also worked on 20 short films, including several from his own production company, Fluid Eye Productions. No stranger to hard work, Douglas will this year be talking about the challenges of producing short films, with examples from his Scottish BAFTA winning Run Tony, Run! (2006), and his latest work, made on HD, Edie’s P. O. V.

Tuesday August 7th

Directing: Norman Stone
BAFTA and Emmy (Shadowlands 1985) award winning Director, Norman Stone, will take the helm of our Directing workshop this year. Norman is no stranger to the Festival, having his feature, Man Dancin’ (shot by Mike Fox and edited by Colin Goudie: see below), screened and joining our 2468 judging panel in 2005. He has been directing for both film and TV for over 30 years. An enthusiastic and lively director and, indeed, man in general, we are sure that this workshop will not only inspire, but also entertain.

Wednesday August 8th

Cinematography: Mike Fox BSC
Mike Fox (BSC) has been behind the camera for 20 years, capturing the action for both film and television. A true professional, Mike’s many credits include work with David Attenbourgh, BBC’s Timewatch, the Monty Python team and projects with our directing workshop leader, Norman Stone. A real treat for anyone that wants to get an insight from the man behind the camera.

Thursday August 9th

Sound: Tommy Hair
Sound recordist Tommy Hair has spent the last decade making sure we hear what the director wants us to. Tommy has worked a number of projects alongside our Cinematography leader, Mike Fox including Things to Do Before You're 30 and Man Dancin'. He has also worked on the BBC's Rocket Man and TV BAFTA nominated Who Do You Think You Are?

Friday August 10th

Editing: Colin Goudie
Returning this year, to once again impart his hard earned editing wisdom and knowledge, is RTS Award winning (Holy Cross, 2003) editor Colin Goudie. A firm favourite with the 2005 workshoppers, Colin brings over 20 years of experience of making directors look great. Since his last visit, Colin has kept himself busy on such high-profile projects as; Rome and Lusitania: Murder on the Atlantic (BBC), and festival screening The Walk. We are sure that you will not be disappointed with what Colin will be bringing this year.
